Reduced NHS funding of homeopathy

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 30th Jan 2008

Commenting on news that over a fifth of NHS hospital trusts have cancelled or reduced funding of homeopathy in the past two years after a campaign by leading scientists to removed the alternative therapy from the NHS, Dr Evan Harris, Liberal Democrat Science spokesperson, said:

"At a time when the NHS finds it difficult to afford those treatments which have proper evidence of effectiveness, the public will expect PCTs to be able to justify any spending on treatments, like homeopathy, where there is only evidence that they are not effective."
