Comment on Environment Agency purchase of Demountable flood defences for Osney Island Still need large scale flood alleviation schemes- HARRIS

12.00.00am GMT Fri 21st Dec 2007

Local Liberal Democrat MP, Dr Evan Harris, welcomed the announcement from the Environment Agency of demountables for Osney Island but warned that the bigger question about large scale flood defences for the Botley Road as a whole and other flood risk areas remained critical and pressing:

"These demountable barriers can be useful at times of flood for protecting areas like Osney Island from rising river levels but they will never be a substitute for large scale flood alleviation schemes which the Botley Road area of Oxford needs. Local residents remain concerned about the short and medium term risk of more flooding".
