No appetite in House of Commons to restrict access to abortion

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 5th Jun 2007

Commenting on the defeat of Ann Winterton's 10 Minute Rule Bill today, Liberal Democrat MP Dr Evan Harris said:

"This shows once again that there is no appetite in the House of Commons to restrict access to abortion.

"This is the third 10 minute rule bill heavily defeated and is a good indication that the 1967 Abortion Act will not be made more restrictive by the anti-abortion lobby when it is debated during the passage of the Embryology Bill during the next Parliamentary session."
